Good for the Soul

This past Wednesday Lara, Grant, and I went to the Banff Film Festival.  It was our forth year going and we always love the films dealing with all things outdoors including extreme sports and preserving the environment.  Grant was an angel.  He watched (yes, he sat and watched quietly!) the first 15 minute film and then fell asleep during the second one.  The festival always gets us pumped up to do something outdoors and it just so happened that I had a kayak trip planned for the weekend.  My friend Jon and I got on the Clarion river in Cooksburg in a canoe and a kayak Saturday morning and had Lara pick us up downstream on Sunday.  We stopped and camped out along the way.

The sky was a little angry that day!  The weather reports were calling for a chance of rain and snow and a low in 20's but how often do you have a chance to get away like this.  So we decided to leave as planned.  We saw both rain and snow...

and if you look closely in this picture you can see sleet!  We hit the trifecta!

We actually enjoyed all the weather.  We were pretty much
the only people out and about and it wasn't all rainy and snowy.

We decided to stop in a nice group of spruce along the river.
Here is our makeshift campsite.  Who knew a kayak made such a nice bench.
Jon didn't catch any fish so it was hot dogs for dinner.

What a gorgeous trip.  We saw some wildlife including a bald eagle.  A good portion of the trip was undeveloped along the river and we saw some beautiful sites.  It is a trip worth repeating.

New things with Grant

Last month at Grant's 4 month appointment we found out that he weighed 17 lbs 3 oz and was 26 3/4" long.  I think the Dr. said he is now in the 90th percentile for both height and weight.  So he is actually on the charts.  The Dr. said if he stays this big of a boy he will be 6'2" as an adult.  Lara and I are thinking, given our stature, he is most likely going to level out in the coming months.

Grant is now big enough to enjoy being in an exersaucer.

He started eating rice cereal and loves it!

He is obsessed with his toes.  He's always bending
over to see them or putting them up by his face.

Yesterday we decided to take Grant to the park in Bellefonte just a few minutes from our house.
We fed the ducks and geese and Grant seemed to watch them quite a bit.

Easter!

We celebrated Easter at Lara's parents.  We had a delicious dinner and of course an easter egg hunt.  Since we were all dressed up we decided to snap a few family pics.
We missed seeing you Hetrick Family.  Hopefully this post (& the last one)
help you feel like you were there.

Emma's B-day

Last weekend was full of celebrations!  Emma's 7th birthday on Saturday and Easter on Sunday.  A party at the Fiscus house is always a blast and this one was no exception.

The birthday girl had an adorable jewelry box cake (for her jewelry themed party).

The great weather allowed for some fun outdoor activities and it seemed like this party had a little bit of everything.

A Bounce House

Truck & Tractor Races

An Easter Egg Hunt

A plethora of cute kids.  Here are just a few of them.

But don't be fooled, this party wasn't all fun and games.
There was serious competition on the B-ball court...

and deep converstaions on the driveway.

And most serious of all, the finding of ones true love!

Thanks for the great party Jenny and Jed!!!  It looks like everyone had a blast.  We definitely did.

Grant's Room

We have a camping, woodsy, tree theme going on.

Here's the name plate we
made for above his crib.

Lara and I painted the three little paintings and Jenny & Jed gave Grant the bookshelf for Christmas.

A few close-ups since we are so proud of our work!

Lara, Jenny & Grace made some pretty darn cute curtains

and lastly, Lara and I refinished an old dresser.

Here's the before.
