Rocky Mountain National Park

Lara and I loved our trip to Colorado. We flew out May 18th and got back May 25th (Monday). We thought we might spend some time in Denver but loved the park so much we just couldn't bring ourselves to leave it. We hiked everyday we were there and traveled around 30 miles on the trails. We hiked up and down mountains, around lakes, and to waterfalls. The park was nearly devoid of people which made it all the better. We felt like we had the park to ourselves. Lara, even being nearly 4 months pregnant, had no trouble trekking all over the park. It absolutely was a second honeymoon.

This was our adorable cabin in Estes Park just minutes from the entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park. It was perfect. It had a fireplace and the owners gave us a bundle of wood each day. We spotted a few elk right out our window.

I tried to pick out a few photos that summed up our experience there. We took over 300 and also 1.5 hours of video. Luckily most of you won't be subjected to all of it.

Can you spot a moose?

Trail ridge road is the only road that bisects the park. It was scheduled to be closed until at least the 23rd but opened up early much to our delight.
Aside from all the beautiful scenery we got to see bighorn sheep, elk, mule deer, moose, marmots, coyote, and fox. Lara and I could not believe all the elk. At dusk we would drive back into the park and watch them at their watering hole.

A few more pretty pics from our hikes.

Maybe my favorite of all. A tough hike through the snow led to The Loch. Absolutely Gorgeous!!!

The happiest of all our critters to have us back at home was undoubtedly Kilo. He has been meowing for our attention and cuddling with us every opportunity he has had since our return. I took this pic of him relaxing with Lara after she got home from work on Tuesday.

Cody's 4th Birthday!

Our trip to Ohio was well worth the drive. We had a great time and enjoyed being there for Cody's birthday. Cody was amped up and seemed to have a blast. What little boy wouldn't love a Cars themed birthday party?

In addition to being there for the big celebration we finally got to meet Carly. She was even cuter than her pictures. She spent most of her time sleeping and missed most of the party!!! She's still a big baby and was even bigger than a baby there who was a month older than her.

Occasionally she did open her eyes to check out who had a hold of her.
Jason & Heather - Thanks so much for inviting us. Hopefully we can see you again before too much time passes.

In other baby news, Lara had her second Dr's appointment this morning. Although we saw the heart beating last visit in the ultrasound, today was the first that we heard it. The Dr. said our baby was a showoff because the heartbeat was so loud and easy to find. It was definitely reassuring to hear it. We have another month or so until our next visit.
